VA PENSION ELIGIBILITY STANDARDS FOR VETERANS

The Elder and Disability Law Firm, APC Sept. 22, 2015

On behalf of The Elder and Disability Law Firm, APC on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.

If you are a veteran, you may qualify for Veterans Pension Program benefits, including the Veteran's Aid and Attendance program. The Elder & Disability Law Firm can help veterans in Loma Linda, CA and surrounding areas to discover if they are eligible.

APPLICATION SUBMISSIONS ENCOURAGED

There are a lot of conditions, but it is worth following through to see if you qualify. Even if your income was near the maximum, you are encouraged to submit an application. You can reapply if your initial application was declined and list unreimbursed medical expenses incurred after your first try.

In general, you may be eligible if - your discharge was for conditions other than dishonorable, AND - your active military service was at least 90 days long, AND - you served at least one day during a war time period (note: in cases where active duty began after September 7, 1980 there are more complicated requirements); AND

You meet income criteria below the maximum annual pension rate for VA purposes; AND

- You must be 65 years old or older, OR - you are disabled (permanently and totally), which is not due to willful misconduct on your part, OR - you are in a nursing home as a patient, OR - you are getting Social Security disability benefits.
